1. Planning
All planning applications affecting Bosham (both north and south of the A259) are scrutinised by a member of the committee and where appropriate (I.e. In the case of a potentially damaging or contentious application) by the whole committee. Representations are then made to the District Council either objecting in principle to the development or suggesting ways in which the development could be made acceptable.
2. Sea Defence Flooding and Sewerage problems
Bosham is prone to flooding both from the sea, during storms and exceptional high tides, and from the land, due to run-off of rainwater from surrounding fields and streams. The village’s drains are in many cases antiquated or blocked, and the committee has built up a detailed knowledge of the system. We have convinced the authorities to make many changes to remove the risk of flooding. This is on-going work which is spearheaded by the Association. We maintain a good working relationship with the Environment Agency, Highways, Chichester district Council and Southern Water.
3. Roads and transportation
The Association maintains active contact with the highway authority and railway operator to ensure that the transport needs of the village are properly met, and that village streets and roads are maintained to a satisfactory standard.
4. Other matters relevant to Bosham
It sometimes happens that there are problems where it is not possible for the authorities to assist, usually because the problem cannot be defined as belonging to any one authority or is of an aesthetic nature. The Association can and does pick up such items and with the help of all organisations and our army of volunteers can find a solution. The “Bosham Pong” is a good example.
